THE Fiji Taekwondo Association is looking to select a training squad for next years Pacific Mini Games after the national championships in December.
Fiji Taekwondo President Neelu Nand said all the local clubs had been training hard and were looking forward to the national championships.
Nand said they wanted to select the best for the mini games in Wallis and Futuna.
"After we cancelled the trip to participate at the Oceania Championships in Australia all our athletes have turned their focus on the national championships," Nand said.
"We believe we have the talent to be able to put together a very strong team to represent the country at the mini games next year," Nand said.
Tae kwon do is considered a minor sport in the country but the sport is slowly gaining popularity.
Nand said at the moment they had four clubs around the country preparing hard for the championships.
"We have a club in Suva, one in Nasinu, one in Ba and a small one in Sigatoka."
Looking ahead to the mini games, Nand said they wanted to continue to improve their international achievements after a good show at 2011 Pacific Games where they won one silver and a bronze in New Caledonia.
