THE FIJI National University plans to offer a post-graduate program on Health Information Systems (HIS) next year.

This was revealed by the dean of the university's College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences Professor Ian Rouse on Monday at the opening of a five-day HIS short course at the campus.

"I'm happy to announce with the help of AusAID and the University of Queensland, FNU is planning to move to offer a PG program of study commencing 2013," Prof Rouse said.

"The future health of the Pacific population will depend on better planning of health services based on limited funding," he said.

"To do so, we certainly need to improve the quality and use of our information," he added.

He encouraged regional health professionals from 10 Pacific regions who had taken up the short course to grasp as much as they could from their facilitators.

The HIS short course ends on Friday.
