OCEANIA Championships gold medallist Arieta Mudu will fly Fiji's flag in weightlifting at the Olympic Youth Festival in Australia next year.
The 19-year-old is one of the four women who will represent the Oceania region in the event.
The Baba, Levuka lass was selected based on her gold medal win a the Oceania Weightlifting Championship in Samoa in June where competing in the 53kg category, she snatched 53kg and in the clean and jerk event, lifted 70kg to bring her total to 125kg.
National coach Joe Vueti said her total was 15kg more compared to the second placed lifter.
He said consistent training since then has seen her improve her total in just three months.
"Now she can snatch 60kg and 80kg in the clean and jerk so now her personal best total is 140kg," Vueti said.
"With the way things are showing, she is sure to continue improving and will be one of the athletes to watch in the Olympic Youth Festival," he said.
He said training with the national squad had helped Mudu improve in each section of her total.
"She is not the only one training with the national squad, there are other younger athletes and they have all shown good improvement.
"Training with the national side not only helps you improve your total but gives you more motivation and confidence going into international events."
Vueti said a final camp would be held in December for Mudu and the national side.
"This is because then she will finish school and concentrate more on her event and so she will be more focused on the competition," he said. The Australian Olympic Youth Festival will be held in Sydney from Wednesday, January 16 to Sunday, January 20.
