SOME of the country's top sevens teams will next month converge at Taveuni to battle for the $10,000 on offer at the 2012 Fiji Bitter Wairiki Parish 7s.

Tournament organiser Jone Katoni said at the moment defending champion Marist and Police from Suva had confirmed their participation.

Katoni said he had also started negotiations with Wardens, Red Rock and Westfield Saunaka side from Nadi regarding their participation.

Katoni says he believes these top sevens clubs would find it hard to turn down the offer of participating in the north's biggest 7s tournament.

"We expect to have 40 teams to play in this three-day tournament.

"Because we have limited space we will only take the first 40 teams that pay its registration fee before the closing date on November 3," Katoni said.

He called on all team officials to make an effort to pay the registration fees early and avoid disappointment of missing out.

"We have put up $5000 as the winning prizemoney but altogether $10,000 will be up for grabs in the tournament.

"We want to thank our sponsor Foster's for its continuous support to the development of rugby in Taveuni."

Katoni said they would also host a tournament for under-19 teams and also a netball tournament.
