National netball reps participate at Coral Coast tournament

NATIONAL netball reps featured in the inaugural Quality Rentals Coral Coast tournament held at Lawaqa courts over the weekend.

The tournament, which saw 11 clubs participating, was eventually won by the KBL Shine On team.

Laced with sharp shooter and national rep Afa Rusivakula and tough defender Raijeli Daurewa, KBL Shine On overcame Bounty 24-23 in a closely-contested final.

Bounty, which had the services of veterans Filo Korovulavula and Seruwaia Vonolagi, along with youngster Unaisi Rauluni, made a good start in the showdown, winning the opening quarter 10-5.

KBL Shine On played a catch up game and levelled the score 15-all at the break.

The side took 19-17 lead at the end of the third quarter and held on to win the final quarter by 24-23.

KBL Shine On overcame Navosa 29-12 while Bounty defeated Nasivikoso 22-7 in the semi-finals.

Tournament co-ordinator Judy Kumar hailed the inaugural event a success and thanked the national reps for participating.

He said the tournament gave local clubs exposure to high level of competition.

Litia Ratu of the newly formed Frendz was awarded best player and received $50 for her efforts.
