WAIYAVI resident Keleni Marawa scored a double for Lautoka in the 3-0 victory over Rewa in the semi-finals of the Bargain Box Fiji Limited Women's Inter District Championship at Govind Park in Ba yesterday.
Marawa showed her experience in the second half to net both goals and end Rewa's run in the tournament.
Jiojiana Lala had scored for the Blues in the first spell.
Rewa struggled in the heat and failed to combine well.
Lautoka coach Sere Nalulu said they qualified for the final for the first time. He said this was a major achievement.
"I'm very happy with the performance," Nalulu said.
"The team was really struggling with the accommodation problems.
"But in the semi-final the girls really stepped up.
"Keleni is an experienced player and has been representing Lautoka for some time. We came here with a mission to qualify for the final and the girls achieved that."
Rewa coach Sekove Tama Vosuga was gracious in defeat.
He said no one had given his side any chance of reaching the semi-final.
"Qualifying for the semi-final is a step better than last year," Vosuga said.
"I want to thank the girls for their hard effort.
"They got together only two weeks ago. There wasn't much expectation from the team.
"But we proved ourselves. These players will need to take the sport seriously and have to train every day.
"Maybe next year we will hit the final."
