LORETTA Kotoisuva and Doreen O'Connor successfully defended the Invitational Pairs Championship at the Vatukoula Bowling Club yesterday.

The duo defeated Litia Tikoisuva and Charlotte Barnett 20-8 in the all Suva final.

In the semi-final Doreen and Loretta beat Lavenia and Meiva 11-10 while Litia and Charlotte downed Va and Luisa 14-11.

Tournament co-ordinator Semesa Lewai said they witnessed some very good match ups over the two days.

He said for the first time they introduced a second tier competition just to give the losing players a chance of getting more game time.

"The losers from the pool play were relegated to the tier two competition," Lewai said.

"We saw good bowling action as we had the top bowlers from around the country participating. Certainly the tournament was better than last year. It was more competitive."

"For the first time we introduced a second tier competition which certainly generated more interest."

Sheryl Mar and Maria Patel of Nadi won the tier two competition beating Mereani and Frances of Vatukoula in the final.
