PEOPLE from the district of Veinuqa in Namosi are seeking assistance in road construction work from the new Wainiyavu Bridge to three villages located across the Wainiyavu River.

Veinuqa representative Pio Drivanavalau said the people were grateful for the assistance provided by the government in constructing a new bridge which now provides access for those living across the Wainiyavu River.

Mr Drivanavalau said they sought assistance from government in road upgrades that linked Navunidavo to Wainiyavu, Wainilotulevu and Nasoqo village in Namosi.

"If there are proper roads, the people will be able to transport their produce to the Navua market, giving them a chance to earn a living.

"We need the vehicles to actually go into the village and not just drop people off here at the bridge," said Mr Drivanavalau.

Commissioner Central Lieutenant Colonel Laisenia Tuitubou said works would be done on the reconstruction of the road close to the new bridge.

He said the Fiji Roads Authority would be able to reconstruct the road now that they have the bridge making it easier to deliver materials to the other side of the Wainiyavu river.

"We will be able to carry out other government projects in the province of Namosi after road works are complete.

"Once the road is open we have to start with the construction of the nursing station and renovation works for a school in Wainiyavu," he said.
