PARRAMATTA Eels-bound forward Erevonu Kamikamica was named the best player during the Queen Victoria School under-18 awards night at the Vine Yard Restaurant in Suva on Friday night.

Kamikamica, who will join the Eels next month, has been an outstanding figure for the Victorian during their Deans rugby campaign this season.

His tall frame and uncanny rugby skills was exceptional. Flyhalf Kini Douglas and fullback Ruebon Tokona were named the top backline players while livewire hooker Joseph Koroivueti was the best forward.

The event was organised by the old scholars and parents who decided to award the team that have been winning the Deans title from the under-14 grade.

School principal Filimoni Vatuvoka said the boys deserved to be recognised for their success in retaining the Deans title.

"What a way to recognise this team that has been winning since the U14 grade. The event was organised not only to recognise the players but also to boost them as they prepare for their external exams," he said.

"I believe this is a good way to celebrate and give something back to this group of boys. The players gave their best in the season they successfully defended the title. So doing this was just to thank them for their effort."

Vatuvoka acknowledged the support of the parents and old scholars who planned the event. He said the support was tremendous this season.

"I am so thankful to all our supporters, the parents, old scholars and everyone that supported the team this year. All your support has paid off with the victory in Lautoka," he added.

Kamikamica, Ratu Emori Tuisese and Mateo Qolisese will be leaving the school next month to join their respective clubs overseas. Tuisese and Qolisese are linked with the Wests Tigers while Kamikamica joins the Eels.
