NEWLY-promoted Super Premier team Flamingo caused the biggest upset of the Fiji Touch Rugby competition in Suva when they beat former champions Raiwaqa Flyers 4-3 at Furnival Park in Toorak yesterday.

Fiji Touch president Georgina Lasaqa said Flamingo deserved their win yesterday as they were the better team on the day.

Lasaqa said even though Flamingo was just recently promoted to the Super Premier competition, they showed sheer determination and were not intimidated by the former champions.

"Under the leadership of Jone Siqilo, Flamingo showed their promotion to the Super Premier competition was on merit and the win over the Flyers is just the start to a good season of competition, " Lasaqa said.

"That win is also a reminder to all the big teams in the competition that Flamingo will be a threat this year."

It was not a good day for the Flyers as their women's team was also beaten yesterday.

Super Touch beat the Flyers 3-2.

The only good news for the Raiwaqa-based club was that their under-16 and under-20 teams managed to win their games. The Flyers U16 side defeated Warriors 5-0 while their U20 team beat Sixers 4-3.
