THE victorious Digicel Fiji sevens team was mobbed by fans and staff at Plantation Island Resort in the Mamanuca Islands yesterday in one of their first ever visits to meet well wishers after their win at the Gold Coast Sevens last week.
The team, led by coach Timoci Wainiqolo and team officials, were treated to a day of fun and entertainment by staff, fans and guests at the island resort.
Brian Kirsch, director of Plantation Island, said the staff at the resort were very happy to have the players visit them. Mr Kirsch said the staff thought the celebrations accorded to the team was better than their Fiji Day celebrations.
Guests at the resort, New Zealand couple, Bridget and Mike Roberts said they were happy to meet the boys.
"My husband is definitely a huge rugby fan and to be able to come here and meet them is something that doesn't happen a lot," said Bridget.
Australian Allan Jones said he watched the Gold Coast final last week at the island resort.
"I really liked the way (Joji) Raqamate played. He was definitely my favourite player in the whole tournament," said Jones.
