HEAVY showers hit parts of the Western Division yesterday, catching many off guard.

Clear skies and brilliant sunshine on Friday had Sugar City residents out in throngs as pre-Diwali sale announcements echoed throughout the central business district.

Rain yesterday afternoon sent many ducking for cover and heading home.

Thirty six kilometers away, the Lautoka women's soccer team taking part in the Women's Inter-District Cup Soccer Championship in Ba had a battle of a different kind yesterday when their accommodation facilities at Govind Park began leaking under heavy rain.

Players and officials scrambled to find receptacles while the showers left the football pitch resembling a mini swimming pool in some areas.

Meanwhile the Fiji Meteorological Service in Nadi said heavy showers should ease by this afternoon and clear by Monday.
