A FRONT page story in The Fiji Times on November 26, 1970 said a Fiji Airways aircraft would carry Pope John Paul between Pago Pago and Apia on a visit scheduled for Samoa.
The aircraft was to be commanded by the airline's chief pilot Captain Gordon Shearer.
The Pope was to travel with a 25-strong member entourage.
