Darts Open

FIJI Darts Ladies champion Helen Elliott and Mere Savu are the top contenders at the Suva Darts Open which will be held at the Defence Club tomorrow. Elliott defeated Savu in the Fiji Ladies Singles two weeks ago and is expected to lead the charge again this weekend. Defending champion Litia Elder will have a tough time in dealing with Savu and Elliot and the other 40 competitors at the event. Suresh Chand is the men's champion.

Tri-Test for Fiji

THE Fiji Tribe AFL Senior team will play three Test matches against Nauru next month. And the Fiji U15 side are preparing for the upcoming Oceania Championship in December. Fiji will play Tonga, Nauru, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu in the U15 Oceania event. The side trains in Nausori and Suva.

Re-elected

FIJI Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) president Vidhya Lakhan was elected unopposed as the president of Pacific Games Council for a third term, according to a statement by FASANOC yesterday. Lakhan was first elected to the position in Suva in 2003 and was re-elected in Samoa in 2007. The bid to host the 2019 Pacific Games was won by Tonga.

No challenge

NO men's challenge game will be played in the Cuvu Volleyball Association weekly competition today. CVA vice president Jerry Cakau said the Challenge Cup holders Naviti would not compete today because they were in Nadi participating in the Fiji Hotel Workers Volleyball Association Tournament (FHWVT). In the women's challenge match today at the Cuvu Hard Courts, Seniwi will defend the cup against Davetalevu at 3pm.

Super pool

ENTRIES have started pouring in for the Sam Super Pool-sponsored two-player team Snooker tournament. Southern Division Billiards and Snooker Association director Riffat Bhatti said only 32 teams woul be accommodated for the event which will be held on October 27 and 28. "We are urging teams to register now to avoid disappointment," Bhatti said.

Boxing war

THE Police amateur boxing team will defend its boxing title against its force rivals, the Fiji Military Forces in the upcoming Wild West Boxing Promotion in December. Police won the forces contest last year. Wild West Boxing promoter Abdul Khan told Times Sport the contests would be a thriller at Prince Charles in Nadi.

U17 camp

A TOTAL of 75 players have been selected for the second stage of the trials for the National under-17 soccer side. Earlier this week, Fiji Football Association national coaching director Carlos Buzzetti submitted the names to the Fiji FA. In a statement on fijifootball.com, Buzzetti said the players would attend a short camp from October 26 to 28 at the National Football Academy in Ba. "This will be the last selection to reduce the squad to 30 players for the camp in December and I encourage the listed players to attend the camp," he said.
