ACCOR Hotels last night announced it raised an astonishing $462,290 for Cure Kids Fiji.

The funds raised by hotel staff in Fiji, New Zealand and Australia will be used to invest in health initiatives for children in the country.

Event communication manager Murray Davison said staff fundraised for more than a year to take part in the fourth biennial Accor Extreme Challenge to Cure Kids which was held this week, starting from Novotel Lami on Monday and ending yesterday with a celebration at Sofitel Fiji on Denarau, Nadi.

"In addition to the funds raised by hotel staff a number of companies also sponsored the event through significant financial donations.

"These companies include Accor Hotels, Accor Advantage Plus, ATS Pacific, Digicel, Piazza D'Oro Coffee, Reivernet, Rentokil, Rosie Holidays, Star Printery, UB Freight and Yees Cold Storage," Mr Davison said.

More than 50 people competed in the five-day physical contest.

CEO of Cure Kids, Vicki Lee said the fundraising total was absolutely amazing.

"Our partnership with Accor Hotels in Fiji over the past six years has already made a life changing difference for so many children in Fiji.

"These funds will now enable us to continue this work for many years ahead," she said.

Accor Hotels vice president for New Zealand and Fiji Gath Simmons also competed in the events.

"It has been a humbling and emotional five days however, the reward of knowing we are going to continue to make a difference, and save the lives of many children in Fiji is overwhelming," Mr Simmons said.
