POLICE have arrested three men on Taveuni for allegedly stealing dalo on Thursday.
Confirming this, police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said yesterday the arrests were the result of a houseto-house operation by a police taskforce following information from the public.
"The men were arrested at Delaivuna with three bags of dalo," Ms Naisoro said. "The suspects have been charged with one count of theft each and are expected to appear in court soon."
The situation has prompted the police to seek public assistance in identifying people involved in such activities.
"We received about 40 cases of dalo theft and we managed to solve at least 20 this month alone on the island.
"Such cases are rife in the area and we are requesting the public to assist us if they have any leads.
"If people are suspicious about a person's behaviour, it would be of great help if they alert us so we can do our investigation.
"Sometimes, when we raid the suspect's house, we are too late because the commodity is sold."
Ms Naisoro said community assistance would boost their work on the island.
