THE Bargain Box Fiji Limited women's Inter District Championship which starts in Ba today will serve as the initial selection for the national under-17 soccer side to the regional play-off in 2014.
A total of ten teams will feature in the three-day IDC.
Defending champions Suva heads Pool Two with Rewa, Labasa, Nadroga and Nadi. Pool One includes Ba, Navua, Lami, Lautoka and Tavua.
Bargain Box Fiji Limited director Rahul Roy said they were proud to support women's soccer.
He said women's soccer had a bright future in the country.
Fiji Football Association women's soccer chairperson Susan Wise said the total sponsorship from Bargain Box Fiji Limited was $10,000.
She said the pools were evenly matched. "It will be a tough tournament since it is the only one in the year," Wise said.
"The teams are all prepared. It is an annual event that all the women footballers look forward to."
"Ba, Labasa and Suva are amongst the favourites. But we cannot rule out the other teams. There are plans in place for development of women's football.
"We will be getting our U17 team ready."
