RECONCILIATION must begin with the self then members of the family before extending to others.
Care must be taken that no segment of society should be exploited socially, economically or otherwise over others.
"To bring about national reconciliation, people ought to be taught basic language literacy mainly in Hindi and Fijian," said the School Management Association of Fiji in its written submission to the Constitution Commission on Monday.
"This will secure the understanding and respect for values of each culture in Fiji.
"Besides iTaukei language and culture has to be understood by all."
The association said a truth commission should be established to find how coups had occurred and a mediation and reconciliation program be started in all communities and schools.
Also, it said the youth of the country should be well recognised and acknowledged in the constitution.
"They should be given authority to form national youth forum and be financed by the government for an annual youth assembly.
"They should be encouraged and trained to participate in leading the nation," said the association.
