A CONSTITUTIONAL Review Committee needs to be enacted to review and update the constitution on an annual basis.
Somosomo villager Tevita Seniloli said the sub-committee should make recommendations for amendments if they saw the need in order to keep the country's supreme law up to date with the changing times.
"The membership of the review sub-committee should be selected by government," he said. "There is a need to review our constitution every now and then in order to keep it up to par with the needs of the people and changes that is brought about by development."
Constitution Commission chairman Professor Yash Ghai said by gauging the pros and cons of the constitution, "it would enable us to find out the effectiveness of the constitution".
"However it is important to understand the reasons and the causes of the coups in order to help us formulate strategies to prevent coups from happening," he said.
"The review of the constitution is not the solution to solving the coup culture."
