NCSA backs squash bid

THE Northern Club Squash Association is supporting the World Squash Federation in their bid to get the sport into the 2020 Olympics.

NCSA players will get together on October 20 in Lautoka to be part of a global competition which is expected to attract over 20,000 participants.

NCSA executive Eremasi Matanatabu said a total of 50 players from Lautoka would participate in the one-day event.

"The Northern Club Squash is also supporting World Squash on October 20 by being part of in the global competition," Eremasi said.

"World Squash wants to make headlines around the world to back the bid for squash to be included in the 2020 Olympics. So to do that World Squash has organised thousands of players joining in on the day to take part in a global competition.

"The intention is that not only will it be the biggest squash match in history, but it will be the biggest sports match ever.

"To date there are over 20,000 registered participants worldwide and at the Northern Club we expect over 50 players to take part."

Meanwhile, the P Meghji-sponsored business house league competition will enter its third round this week.

Team Automart captained by Natabua High School student Nitesh Prasad leads Pool A.

Sponsors P Meghji led by Romit Meghji is the front runner in Pool B.

Eremasi said 50 players were part of the business house league.

"The players have been divided into 10 teams," Eremasi said.

"Round three will see Marika Matanatabu's Roadworks team take on Swapnil Talekar's Apco Coatings.

"Danny Well's P Kumar Electrical/All Engineering will take on Adrian Matanatabu's Bargain Box.

"In pool B Gene Ridgway's Northern Club will take on Sidhu Iyer's TSA Parts/Parmar's Lautoka and Justin Ho's W&G take on Ratu Wiliki Takiveikata's PWC."

"The business house league has drawn in a lot of new and young squash players which will help in squash development at the Northern Club."
