NATIONAL beach volleyball rep Finau Waqa made her debut in the Nadi Volleyball Association club competition at the Airports Fiji Limited hard courts in Namaka on Saturday last week.
Waqa helped her Lanai Gold team to a 2-0 victory over Sakura. Lanai Gold won 15-10, 19-15.
The lanky former Raiwai power spiker combined well with former national soccer rep and setter Ane Ramarama and Sainimili Kiritinituraga to hold favourites Sakura to a deuce in the second set.
Sakura, who are Namaka Volleyball Association women's champions, was led by Samanunu Cagi. The side gave the newcomers a good run but were outmatched at the end.
Lanai Gold cruised through its second game defeating AOG Youth by straight sets 15-8, 15-9.
In the other women's matches, knockout champions Neighbours led by national rep Repeka Lasaqa toppled Young Divas by straight sets 15-11, 15-6.
The Namaka-based club continued their unbeaten stint with an effortless default win over Club 183.
In the men's games, knockout champions Votualevu Youth defeated Nasoso by straight sets 15-8, 16-14 and had an easy win over Rebels by straight sets 15-7, 15-6.
NVA secretary Anasa Qio said the club games would continue this Saturday.
