THE newly-established Fiji Fashion Council will soon open Fiji's first Fashion School.

And Fiji Fashion Week judge Carolyn Ah Koy says there's a need for everyone to work together to establish the school.

"Fiji Fashion Council is a non-profit organisation which gets funding from the government and different aid bodies to set up a policy to establish a fashion school," she said.

Ms Ah Koy said the council had been working with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Women.

"The Fashion Council draws members from the Ministry of Education, Ministry for Women and people who are interested in the fashion industry," Ms Ah Koy said.

"We need everybody to be part of this industry that has so many benefits for Fiji." Ms Ah Koy said the school would boost the talent of young designers, machinists, fitters and pattern makers.

Council president Kalpesh Solanki said they recognised that fashion design in Fiji was a new area of opportunity to harness creativity and entrepreneurship.

"More discussions are underway to chart the way forward in this regard," Mr Solanki said.
