RAIN to be heavy at times will be experienced over most parts of the Fiji group until the weekend, says the Weather Office director Alipate Waqaicelua.

He said the current weather condition was attributed to the heavy moist easterly wind flow across the group associated with bands and clouds bringing rain.

"The atmosphere are waking up to the change into the wet and cyclone season. People should not worry about flooding. It will rain until Sunday but there will be some breaks," Mr Waqaicelua said.

Meanwhile, police is pleading with parents to take extra care over their children.

And with more rain expected in the next two to three days, police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro urged parents to know of their children's whereabouts and to keep them safe.

"We are asking members of the public to listen to the advice from the weather office and to stay safe," Ms Naisoro said.

"If it's not advisable to go out, please refrain from doing so, likewise for swimming," she said.
