BA soccer team captain Osea Vakatalesau scored in extra time to save the hosts from becoming the next victims to the surprise package of the tournament — Navua.

The home side started the match on a high note with a goal to Malakai Tiwa from a corner.

Navua equalised in the second half from a goal to veteran Seveci Rokotakala and kept the pressure on Ba.

The match went into extra time and the scores remained the same till the end of the first spell of extra time.

With five minutes left on the clock, Vakatalesau drove home the winner past goalkeeper Sheik Moshin to send the Ba fans into frenzy.

After the match, he said he always wanted to score the winning goal and as he had done on so many occasions in the past and he did the same yesterday.

"I am very proud to help my team reach the finals," said the 26-year-old.

"After they had equalised, I just told my boys to help me score one more goal and they did," he said.

Navua soccer team director Pravin Chand said he was proud of what the team had achieved in three days of preparation.

"We had very little preparation time but I thank the players for their efforts in the tournament,"Chand said.

"We were classed as a weak team before the tournament but we went through the pool unbeaten and then losing to giants Ba by one goal is an achievement on its own," he said.
