EMINONI Turagabeci is the new winner of the Raj Charan National Singles Bowling tournament.

Turagabeci, the son of former national rep Caucau Turagabeci defeated Arun Kumar 21-13 at the Suva Bowling Club yesterday.

Defending champion Abdul Kalim failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament after being bundled out by Suva B-grade champion Sai Baba 16-21 on day one. Kalim was later eliminated by Kumar 21-16.

Turagabeci defeated last year's runner up Semesa Naiseruvati 21-17 in the semi-final while Kumar beat Daniel Lum 21-13 in the second semi-final.

"It was a tight game by Eminoni and Arun as both players were up to 12 points all. Eminoni later found his rhythm and picked up some fine bowling," said Fiji Bowling official Abdul Kalim.

Kalim said they had turned their focus on the World Bowls in Adelaide.

In the quarter-finals, Kumar beat David Aitcheson 21- 9 while Turagabeci defeated Joe Laqere 21-13. Semesa Naiseruvati beat Jai Singh of Australia 21- 9 and Daniel Lum On beat Samuela Tui 21-14 in the fourth top eight clash.
