"For Amete."

Those were the only words spoken by Adi Cakobau School old girl Loata Nagatalevu as she shaved her head for cancer during the ACOG 90s decade quiz night on Friday.

The quiz night was designed to raise funds for the fight against cancer.

Ms Nagatalevu said she had her locks shorn in honour of her close cousin Amete Nagatalevu who was profiled by this paper in 2009.

She tragically lost her battle with cancer earlier this year.

The ANZ employee said the idea of losing her hair was a difficult one to get over but she resolved to do it for one so dear to her.

"I didn't eat anything during the day because I was freaked out about the hair shaving process but it's all good now," she said with a smile.

Ms Nagatalevu said her original aim was to raise $1000 for her to go bald but had fallen just short of the mark.

However, participants at the quiz night dug deep and pushed the amount raised to a total of over $1300 much to Ms Nagatalevu's delight.

The quiz night also proved to be a resounding success with business houses buying out tables and people coming in dressed in pink for the cancer fundraiser.
