ONLY two cyclists remain in the Tour of Fiji race which finishes in Suva today.

Tour leader Brian Hennessey and Christian Carling competed in the stage four race from Rakiraki to Korovou yesterday following the withdrawal of other cyclists.

Carling eventually took out the race beating the last two-stage winner Hennessey by a second.

Race director and Cycling Fiji president Dom Sansom said previous leader, Mike Loeser, retired from the Tour of Fiji and Jonathan Bower did not finish stage three race.

"This left Carling and Hennessey to battle it out in the remaining stage," he said.

Sansom said stage four proved to be the hardest and most challenging so far.

"Most of the road from Rakiraki is perfect for road cycling. Fresh tarmac and no potholes," he said.

"Some sections are still under construction and this was a challenge. There was also a very steep hill around 20 kilometres from the finish.

"Carling led all the way up the hill and proved too good for Hennessey and took the stage win by one second."
