THE Indian Cultural Centre in Fiji is committed to enriching the country's cultures and traditions.

Toward this end, the centre has given musical instruments and books to the Education Ministry.

Receiving the books, Minister for Education Filipe Bole said the instruments and books would be used at six multicultural centres across the country.

"There are over 100 instruments and books and all Fijians will benefit from this," Mr Bole said.

He also acknowledged the contribution of the centre to Fiji and its people since its establishment in 1972.

"The ICC is the first centre established in Fiji by the Indian government outside India and apart from donations the centre has done a lot in Fiji," Mr Bole said.

He said the centre also played a vital role in educating Fijians through annual scholarships for students.

India's High Commissioner Vinod Kumar said music and culture were integral parts of life and development.

"Fiji's education is well recognised in the region and the donation is a small and humble offering," he said.
