THE Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji received a timely financial boost of $10,000 from the Bank of South Pacific yesterday.

The contribution would support the work of the organisation in helping the poorest of Fiji's poor and underprivileged obtain a good education.

FENC Fiji co-chair and co-founder Ratu Meli Vesikula expressed gratitude upon receiving the cheque from BSP Country Manager Kevin McCarthy.

"FENC Fiji helps around 1000 children a year and there is a process where we define the poorest of the poor — without that definition, it would be very hard because the level (of poverty) now is over 40 per cent," he said.

"We receive requests for help from roughly 2000 plus people but we can only help according to the resources that we have.

"BSP has been supporting us every year and through their donation, we're able to support the education of children from Class One to Form Seven."
