THE Suva Magistrates Court has granted bail to Rudra Maharaj, an employee in the Prime Minister's office.

Before Magistrate Janaka Bandara, the court heard Mr Maharaj was released on $10,000 surety bail after appearing on one count of bribery.

The court heard that on September 24 this year, Mr Maharaj without lawful authority to or reasonable excuse accepted an advantage, namely a sum of $2000 in cash and two cheques amounting to a total of $10,000.

The court heard it was a reward from Avin Prakash on account of using influence in procuring a contract pertaining to tender number WSC117-182/2012.

Magistrate Bandara ordered Mr Maharaj to surrender his passport and not interfere with prosecution witnesses.

Under his bail condition, Mr Maharaj has to report at the Nakasi Police Post every Saturday between 6am and 6pm.
