RED Rock started the 2012/13 domestic sevens rugby season on a high note, winning the Nabua 7s tournament at the Ratu Sukuna Memorial School ground on Wednesday.
The Qauia-based club defeated Nabua Babas, the shadow Police team, 31-17 to win the $1000 prize money.
Red Rock coach Lote Rasiga said the win had set a good platform for the upcoming major tournaments.
Rasiga was impressed with the players' performance but insists there are areas to improve on before heading into major tournaments. "We are using small tournaments to build the team and get the players ready for the upcoming major tournaments," the inspirational mentor said.
"We thank the Lord for giving us this victory and we hope to build on to our performance and achieve better results this year."
Tournament organiser Solomoni Ravono said they wanted to revive the Nabua sevens which used to be one of the prestigious tournaments in the 1980s '90s.
Ravono said they were planning to organise a series of tournaments with the next one scheduled on the Diwali holiday in November.
