AN electrical fault at the Fiji Electricity Authority's Rarawai Sub-Station in Ba on Wednesday resulted in a widespread blackout of the town.

The major fault also affected areas in Nadarivatu, Tavua and Rakiraki.

In Ba, residents living in Yalalevu, Vaqia, Yaka, Khalsa Rd, Wailailai, Navoli, Vulavula and Navatu were without electricity until yesterday morning.

Vaqia advisory councillor Suloshna Sharma said residents had their supply restored at 3am.

"Our supply has been restored thankfully but there are areas without power," she said.

"These areas include Navaqarua, Vatua, Sasa, Natutu and Lausa Village."

She said areas in and around Ba Town had their power supply restored including Varadoli.

About 10am yesterday, Toge Village turaga ni koro, Epeli Nasova, said there was no power throughout the village.

Mr Nasova said supply to the village was disrupted at 6pm on Wednesday and that neighbouring Balevuto Village was also without supply.

In a statement, FEA chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel said the quick action by the National Fire Authority and the FEA National Controllers prevented any major catastrophe.
