THE motion for new Super Eight format proposed for the 2012/2013 National Football League was defeated during the Fiji Football Association ordinary congress in Ba.
The sponsors for the NFL CJ Patel had proposed for the changes after raising concerns that they were not getting a fair return for their investment of $250,000 per year.
The company had requested the parent body to revise the format on the grounds that the league:
* provides increased intensity of games and level of interest and commitment by the districts;
* increased public interest and awareness and vastly increased number of spectators;
* increased overall media participation; and
* improved standard of games and no postponements.
The sponsors also noted that gate takings had dropped with districts losing potential revenue.
They suggested a Super Eight with two matches to be played at one venue; a Premier Division with two pools of four teams; and a Senior Division to be played on a tournament basis. The motion was defeated when put to vote.
