THE women from Vanuakula Village in Naitasiri were delighted with the quick response from the Ministry of Women for providing renewed hopes to improve livelihood in their rural community.

Villagers gathered to meet the Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation Dr Jiko Luveni on Monday for the handing over of a Kawasaki brushcutter worth over $900 to the Vanuakula Women's Group, and a $5000 commitment from the ministry to construct a women's centre for Vanuakula.

"Just few days ago we visited Dr Luveni's office and requested for this visit and we're delighted with the quick response to help us with the income-generating projects," Ratu Etuate Karikaritu, the chief for Vanuakula said.

Group president Ulalia Dimanawa said the women had been motivated by the minister's visit and the assistance.

"Earning income is a challenge for our women and we are grateful that ministry has assisted us with our brushcutter project," she said.
