Productivity lacks data

FIJI has been caught off-track from achieving one of its Millennium Development Goals before 2015.

According to a report compiled by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Fiji is yet to meet its MDG Target 1.B - to achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all, including women and young people.

The report - 2012 Pacific Regional MDGs Tracking Report - showed that the employment to population ratio in Fiji fell between 1996 and 2007, while there were 39 per cent of workers in vulnerable employment in 2007.

"There was no data in labour productivity," the report stated.

"The decline in employment levels are likely a result of the relatively depressed economic conditions during this period, led by the adverse effects of the 2000 and 2006 coups and various natural disasters."
