THERE should be a platform for giving scholarships to the qualifying students irrespective of their races and ethnic background.
Savusavu Secondary School student Krishal Kumar, in his submission at Khemendra Central School this week said scholarships should be awarded on merit.
Mr Kumar said those who were born in Fiji were Fijians and there should not be two sets of scholarships.
"We should all be called Fijians but it shouldn't just be written down in the constitution, it should also be practiced in real life," he said.
"Presently, we have two sets of scholarships and one for the iTaukei while the other for other races."
He said the eligible marks for scholarships for students with other races was different from the the iTaukei students.
"For example, if there are 700 scholarships, the best 700 students should be chosen without considering race or gender," he said.
"All Fijians should be treated equally, he said.
Another student, Uday Prasad proposed that parents paying school or university fees should be given tax allowance as some people have more than one child attending these institutions.
Meanwhile, the two students also called for the President to be elected by the people of Fiji through a ballot.
