LONDON - England manager Roy Hodgson has called up Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand and Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey after Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs was forced to withdraw from his squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Gibbs has been ruled out with a thigh injury suffered in Arsenal's 3-1 win at West Ham and Bertrand will act as his replacement, while Shelvey is promoted from the England Under-21 squad as cover for Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.
Lampard is in doubt for San Marino's visit to Wembley on Saturday and the trip to Poland after suffering a knee problem in his club's 4-1 victory against Norwich.
