government departments in Taveuni need their resources upgraded to improve their services on the island.
In his submissions to the Constitution Commission in Somosomo on Taveuni, dalo farmer James Sami said there was a dire need to upgrade the resources of government departments on the island in order to change their service delivery.
"Many times we have complained about the fact that government service on the island is pathetic but after looking at the root of the problems, we have found that resources need to be updated so that government departments are up to par with the needs of the people here," said Mr Sami.
As part of his submission, Mr Sami said the retirement age should be reviewed as many civil servants with experience were sent on an early retirement and government did nothing with the great wealth of knowledge that the workers had.
"There is also a need to increase the number of Justices of Peace and legal merit officers on the island since we have only a few presently, taking into consideration the lack of a central location where such services are needed," he said.
