Police out in numbers

THE police will be out in numbers today to ensure the safety of Fijians attending Fiji Day celebrations around the country.

Police chief of operations Assistant Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said Commissioner Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua has issued a directive for his officers to ensure the celebrations are incident free.

"Operations around the divisions will also be beefed up to counter any criminal elements that might take advantage of the public holiday with people being away from their homes," ACP Tudravu said.

Meanwhile, members of the public are also being advised on the closure of the following roads in the Capital City:

* Cakobau Rd will be closed from 6am to 1pm;

* Southern Cross Rd behind the Albert Park pavilion will also be closed; and

* Victoria Pde temporarily closed for the march at 8.15am.

People have also been advised to take proper care of themselves while attending the celebrations.
