PROVINCIAL Development permanent secretary Lieutenant Colonel Inia Seruiratu has encouraged divisional commissioners to invest in sugarcane farming.
Lt-Col Seruiratu made the comment while visiting Labasa mill last week as part of a quarterly board meeting attended by the commissioners, provincial administrators and government heads in the Commissioner Northern's office.
"I am also a sugarcane farmer and my farm is in Seaqaqa," he said.
"This is a good investment because it's not only beneficial for us individually but for the economy.
"It's good news that Labasa mill is progressing well this year and farmers should be encouraged to plant more." Mill manager Christopher Karia said operations were in progress with no major hiccups.
