ANZ has teamed up with mobile phone company Digicel for the roll out of its first ever wireless automatic teller machine.

The unique ATM at the Nasese Bakery along Ratu Sukuna Road uses satellite technology to operate remotely without telephone lines which are usually needed to operate ATMs.

"The wireless technology will be rolled out progressively to our ATM network. With improved technology and mobility, customers will be able to complete ATM transactions within seconds and conveniently access funds at major events around the country," ANZ chief executive officer Vishnu Mohan said.

ANZ hopes to complete its full upgrades of Electronic Funds Transfer at Point of Sale (EFTPOS) network and internet banking next year.
