CHINESE ambassador Huang Yong yesterday urged local Chinese to be law abiding citizens.
"We encourage Chinese in Fiji to follow the law and work together to support and contribute to the local people," he said.
Mr Yong told The Fiji Times that there were a lot of Chinese who had migrated to Fiji to start businesses.
"There are a lot of Chinese who married Fijian people," he said.
"Even though they got married, they still have a very strong bond and link with China.
"Some businessmen come here to expand their business and already have their citizenship but some keep the Chinese nationality while some come here for opportunities, universities and high schools."
Mr Yong said they also wanted to strengthen the people to people relationship.
Chinese Association of Fiji president Jenny Seeto told The Fiji Times that they had been recommending local Chinese and those who are here on business to follow the law.
"We usually stress this out in schools, communities and in homes," she said.
