THE Fiji Girl Guides Association has been invited to attend fanTAStic 2013 that will be held in Tasmania, Australia from January 6-12.
Responding to emailed questions, Mere Tuikoro of the FGGA said 12 girls and eight leaders had registered for the self-funded trip. Of this total, five leaders and four girls are from the north, there is one leader from Koro, two leaders and eight girls are from Suva.
Mrs Tuikoro said attending overseas events was nothing new to the group as it received invitations throughout the year. Last year more than 20 girls and leaders attended a NZ Jamboree Camp and several had gone for triennial camps in Korea.
She said the 2013 event would allow girls from all over - Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to participate in the week-long camp with a variety of activities offered for the girls aged from 12-17. These will include outside activities, bush walks, horse riding, Bollywood dancing, craft, beauty parlour etc. She said there would be a very wide range of activities for girls to choose from.
Such guiding experience/exposure provide opportunities for girls to learn and share and make new friends and just have good fun - that what guiding is for.
Mrs Tuikoro some of the many positives gained from such trips were that the girls, upon their return showed greater confidence in expressing themselves and were a good influence among their peers and in the community.
A visit to the event website, http://www.fantastic-girlguides.com.au/, which also has the theme song for the meet, showed there will be Guides and Scouts from Japan, Canada, New Zealand, USA, Fiji, India, England and many more countries.
