JONE Vota scored a crucial try for his Wardens Gold side as they beat Redrock I 14-7 in the final of the Fiji Bitter Veivatuloa 7s at a wet and muddy Thomson Park in Navua yesterday.
Vota was a former Redrock player before he joined the Wardens early this year and has been one of their key players throughout the season.
He was strong in defence and supported his ball carrier well on attack.
Vota, along with lanky forward Seniyasi Senivau, also a former Redrock player, were outstanding for the winning team during the two-day tournament.
The Semi Tadulala-captained Wardens side scored two tries in the first half to lead 14-0 at the break.
Redrock had their opportunity to cross the Wardens line in the first half but gave away possession through poor handling.
Redrock I defeated Lami Steelers in another semi-final.
USP Mermaids won the netball competition after beating Hyatt Netters in the final.
