INCREASING competition within the local information and communications technology market has forced the Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Limited group to relook at its business structure for its continued financial growth, according to ATH chairman Ajith Kodagoda.
Responding to issues raised on the termination of 10 KIDANET staff, the internet business arm of FINTEL recently, Mr Kodagoda said the ATH board had earlier indicated this year would be a year of consolidation where several reforms would take place.
"Some of our subsidiaries are competing with each other and are providing the same services. The major objective or the restructure of the ATH group is to address this," Mr Kodagoda said.
"The reform includes movements among the subsidiaries of the ATH group, and consolidating or merging operations.
"Unfortunately, job loss is an unavoidable component of reforms. All jobs lost will be compensated for."
