A HEAVY rain warning has been issued for Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Northern Lau, the Lomaiviti Group and Eastern Viti Levu.
Director of Meteorology Alipate Waqaicelua said the heavy rain experienced over most places in Fiji was the result of an active trough of low pressure to the north of the country.
Mr Waqaicelua said there was also a frontal system over Southern parts of Fiji causing heavy rain at times.
"The frontal system is moving slowly towards the group and its effect will be felt within the next 24 hours," he said yesterday.
Mr Waqaicelua said as the system extends over Viti Levu, Southern parts of Fiji would feel cool.
He said people should not panic as there was possible flooding.
"Due to heavy rain, blocked drains and streams can get flooded but the weather should not cause major flooding."
Mr Waqaicelua said his office was closely monitoring the weather and the current weather condition was expected to ease from later today and late Sunday for whole of Fiji.
Members of the public have been advised to be prepared and take heed of weather forecasts.
