MERE Savu faces stiff competition in her bid to defend the Ladies Darts National Singles tomorrow.
The Traps team captain, who defeated Atelini Kanaivalu last year to win the JAD International Travel Services-sponsored event, heads a list of 24 women who will compete at the Defence Club in Suva.
There will also be strong competition from former holder Teresa Kaitu and her teammate Eleni Kit. Also playing after a long lay-off will be Josie Crick and Reapi Blyde.
Also making a return is former Procera dart queen Mereia Ram.
These women are playing in the Vodafone Suva/Lami League and have been throwing good darts and winning some games against their male counterparts. Tournament controller Prem Chand said there were some new and exciting women players to watch out for.
"A newcomer to the game Bella Heritage should be the player to watch," Chand said.
"She's new, she's young and she's very enthusiastic during our Monday league nights. With the support of her mum Litia, aunt Bella and the other youngsters in her team, she will be playing this weekend with a lot of confidence.
"I am positive, she will cause an upset or two during this weekend."
Chand said the competition would be hard fought among the women and there should be good darts thrown throughout the tournament.
He thanked JAD International Travel Services for their continued sponsorship of the Ladies Darts National Singles.
