Man guilty of forgery awaits sentencing

THE High Court in Lautoka has found Ba man Mohammed Rizwan guilty of five counts of forgery.

Rizwan, who was represented by lawyer Iqbal Khan, was charged with one count of endeavoring to obtain property on forged documents, one count of uttering forged document and three counts of forgery.

The accused was found guilty of forging documents to obtain about $15,000 in tax returns from the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority in Ba between July 1 to November 17 in 2008.

According to court documents, Rizwan attempted to receive the money under the name Forzana Zurin Nisha. In the process, the accused forged Forzana Zurin Nisha's name and signature and filed relevant tax return documents with the hope of obtaining the money.

In his final judgment, Justice Sitambarampillai Thurairaja said he concurred with the verdict of the assessors and found Rizwan guilty of all five charges.
