THE Bainivualiku Army team beat Police Blues 14-13 in the final of the Macuata Rugby Union club competition at Subrail Park in Labasa yesterday.

The side walked away with the Katonivere Cup and $700 for their efforts.

Tukana Lekini gave Army the lead in the opening minutes of the game with a successful penalty which was the only score of the first half.

Lekini was successful with two more penalty attempts before Police Blues cut the deficit with two of their own to trail 9-6.

Tempers rose on the field as the two teams tried to score the winning points.

Army managed a score through Lino Saunitoga to put the side 14-6 ahead.

Police Blues skipper Viliame Gonevulavula crossed over the tryline and the conversion was successful to take the score to 14-13 at the final whistle.

Police Blues coach Julian Ravuiwasa thanked his boys for the performance given the short time they had prepared themselves for the final.

Army coach Iosefo Tamanisaqarua commended the performance of his boys saying they had done their best to steal the Katonivere Cup from the defending champions.
