PEOPLE applying for social welfare assistance have been reminded to submit all necessary documents.
Social Welfare Minister Dr Jiko Luveni said documents such as medical reports and birth certificates were essential requirements to access social welfare services.
"At the time of application, all relevant documents such as birth certificates and medical reports must be included. In case of villagers applying, they must also provide a supporting letter from turaga ni koro or advisory councillor," Dr Luveni said.
She clarified that the absence of such documents were often the cause of delay in the processing of applications.
Dr Luveni said elderly in Fiji without any income support were assisted through the Family Assistance Programme.
"The FAP provides a monthly allowance of between $60 and $100 to the elderly 65 years and above with no income support. Those who are receiving any form of pension, lease money or after care fund do not qualify for this assistance," she added.
The other two categories for eligibility under FAP are chronically ill and permanently disabled persons without any income support.
